The Man Who Almost a Man

When I read this writing first "Tough Guise" comes to my mind. There are lots of man who think that having a gun means being a respectful person. I think it is the biggest mistake that ever made by teens. In my country there are lots of man like tough guys sorry not tough guys acting like tough guys and when I see a boy like this I get angry even though I don't know him. As Katz indicates we should show our reaction by behaving bad towards them or ignoring them...

THE END(:

We did lots of different thing this term like pub-quiz, blog etc... It is enjoyable way of learning. At the begginning blogging seems boring to me but since I have started blogging I realise it is not boring that much. I think it is student's psychology "if it is a hw,of course it is boring"(:
In high school I had no idea about pub-quiz thanks to Sonja we realised that we are university students.
My blog's title is "The End" but it is not an end I think it is the beggining of 2. term so I am look forward to see you in ENG102 class...

Truman Show

In my opinion it is a very succesful film. It is the critique of today's voyeuristic life. Our real life is reflected to the screen in an exaggurated way. There is little difference between Truman show and the real life.In Truman show, Truman doesn't know anything about his life and how he is being watched. However, last decades people join reality shows intentionally and they like sharing their privacy on TVs. It breaks the ethical values. On the other hand, media makes people dull by publishing unnecessary shows.

Killing us softly 3

Jean Kilbourne points out how woman are humiliated by the media. Women are devalued by objectification, silencing, dismemberment and sexualization. She shows efficient examples while making her speech. I was really impressed by the video, because it changed my point of view towards the women used in advertisements. Now, I agree with her and focus on the exploitation of women bodies in magazines and on TV.

Tough Guise

In this video relationship between the images created by the mass media and construction of male identities in real life is discussed. Men are shown independent, strong, muscular by the popular culture. The media states how a real man should be. However the violent masculinity makes men commit crimes such as murders, rapes and sexual abuses. I totally agree with Jackson Katz, because media leads men to look tough in the society by commiting these kind of crimes. Mass media assigns roles for men in the society.

My final presantation experience

We were a bit nervous while presenting but it was not that bad if we compare it to our practice presentation. In first presentation we learned that being absent is better than no preparation so we studied for the last one(: In final, we helped each other. Even though one of our team member (Alican) was absent, we had the team spirit(: Thanks to my friends...

Reality TV*

Since the reality tv entered our lives, TV addiction and isolation from life started. The worst drawback of this process is, brain-washing. While we’re focusing on watching reality shows, we can not follow the important daily news and we forget the crucial problems about our country. In my opinion, it can be one of the politicians’ politics because they do not want to rise people’s awareness about politics so they canalize the media according to their profits. The reality tv is the best way to anasthasize the society so it is like an opium. The more you become anasthasized, the less you realise the truth.
