The narrator watches the events on the TV news that described by her lover Carle. He works in the area for three days trying to report the news and rescue Azucena at the same time. During the challenging tough hours he has the opportunity to have a conversation with her which makes him remember about his own miserable childhood. By this event he starts to confront his past.

Nomadic childhood of Isabel Allende

Born in Peru in 1942, young Isabel's nomadic childhood fuelled the flames of her burning imagination. Her father had abandoned the family, her mother had married a travelling diplomat, and Allende was raised in Santiago, mostly by her grandparents.

*There are some similarities between author's childhood and Carle's past. As we can see in this story generally stories' themes affected by author's impressions and experiences they had before.
